While the images of the devasting earthquake in Haiti were horrible to see and will be permanently etched in our minds, at the same time it's frustrating to me that we no longer see or hear anything about the hardships that are still taking place in this area. It was all we saw for days on the news in the earthquake's aftermath, but now all of a sudden it appears that things have miraculously 'gone back to normal' in Haiti. This is definitely not the case. While there are people in some parts of the country that have begun to resume some sense of normalcy, there are still many, many people displaced and without the basic necessities that so many of us are accustomed to. There are thousands of victims that have not been reached and many frenzied aid workers who are struggling to distribute emergency relief supplies to them. Many of us feel helpless and powerless thinking about how great this devastation truly is, but the truth is there is something each one of us can do. There are 25 businesses in our area ( http://www.bewomenonline.com/be-the-difference-community-project-haiti.cfm) that are teaming up to raise money for HOPE International. HOPE International is a Christian faith-based, non-profit organization that focuses on alleviating physical and spiritual poverty through microenterprise development. These local businesses have all come up with a way to donate a portion of YOUR purchase to this organization, so you are able to shop as you normally do while at the same time knowing that you are helping those in such great need. This can be as simple as choosing to purchase your morning coffee at one of the participating coffee shops during the length of the campaign, or purchasing that new piece of art at one of the participating shops in Valley Junction. The great news is that HOPE International has already exceeded their financial goal for meeting the urgent needs in Haiti through their generous supporters. So, the money raised throughout these next 4 weeks will go to the Haiti Redevelopment Fund. This fund will assist in Haiti’s rebuilding by helping HOPE expand their microfinance services to reach those that lost their livelihoods in the earthquake. Whether it's through prayer or a purchase, you CAN help the victims in Haiti! Together we can BE the Difference!
I came across something this morning and wanted to share it with you all; now that our first BE the Difference campaign has begun, I thought it was fitting....
'You don't have to know a lot of things for your life to make a lasting difference in the world. But you do have to know the few great things that matter, and then be willing to live for them and die for them. The people that make a durable difference in the world are not the people who have mastered many things, but who have been mastered by a few great things. If you want your life to count, if you want the ripple effect of the pebbles you drop to become waves that reach the ends of the earch and roll on for centuries and into eternity, you don't have to have a high IQ or EQ; you don't have to have good looks or riches; you don't have to come from a fine family or a fine school. You have to know a few great, majestic, unchanging, obvious, simple, glorious things, and be set on fire by them.' ~ John Piper
We've got another fun contest for you today! Tricia Rivas from Judy's Hair Co (DBA Trixie's) joined us in the studio last Friday to share some fun makeup tips and tricks, and also to share the latest Spring trends and color palettes. And to have your name entered for a 3rd time, post one positive thing about yourself (could be something you are talented at, etc) on our Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/BEgirls
Again, there is a possibility to have your name entered into the drawing 3 times! Be sure to tell me in your email if you utilized your Facebook or Twitter pages for the additional entries! Happy watching everyone! CONTEST QUESTION: WHAT DOES TRICIA REFER TO THIS SEASON AS (THINK MOVIE TITLE!!)??
Ah, the sun is shining! I know the ice weighing down the trees isn't necessarily good for them, but it was SO BEAUTIFUL to look at this morning! It's amazing how your mind eventually shifts and you start looking for beauty in this long winter we're having!
Another fabulous business owner has come on board to raise money for HOPE International and the relief efforts in Haiti! Cyndi Lorenzen is an Independent Consultant for Private Quarters; a company that specializes high end bed and bath linens, as well as loungewear. She is graciously donating 10% of her sales - individual orders and party sales - to the 'BE the Difference, Community Project Haiti' campaign. So, basically EVERYone who orders or books a party throughout this month, she will donate 10% of the net sales! The new spring catalog has just arrived and it's products are able to be viewed through her website, www.clorenzen.privatequarters.net. What a great way to make this winter a little more fun; snuggle up under some Northwoods throws while watching the snowfall! For more information, you can contact Cyndi directly at 515.468.0555!
We are SO excited that March is finally here and we can start our 'BE the Difference, Community Project Haiti' campaign! There are numerous local businesses on board, which just goes to show what a wonderful, giving community we live in! Here is some information on the project: BE is partnering with HOPE International in an effort to bring aid and HOPE to victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. We feel there is no better way to do this, than to come together as a community. Several local businesses have each come up with a creative way (unique to their business) in which they donate a portion of sales and/or services to this campaign. Over the next month, members of our community can shop as they normally do, while at the same time know a portion of the proceeds is benefiting those in such great need. This 'community' of business owners and patrons will all work together to make an even greater impact....
One of these business owners is Regan Ingle, an Independent Advisor/Career Development Coordinator for lia sophia. lia sophia's mission is to connect women to their dream, from obtaining beautiful jewelry to empowering their financial futures. Regan is graciously donating 10% of each jewelry purchase throughout this month to our project! To place an order online, simply visit www.liasophia.com/regan, click on “Our Jewelry” and in the Hostess section enter 'Project' as your first name and 'Haiti' as your last name. You can also contact Regan directly at 515.867.8530 and let her know you would like to place an order and that you would like it to benefit the 'BE the Difference, Community Project Haiti' campaign. Next comes the fun part! Each person that places an order this month will also be entered into a drawing. Each time that Regan receives 10 project Haiti orders and 2 bookings (in home, open house or online/catalog), she will draw from one of our Project Haiti customers and he or she will be the hostess of that show! With some of the best hostess benefits around, this is an easy way to possibly get some great jewelry for free!! On top of these donations, Regan will also donate a % of her personal commissions to this project if you decide to book your own party. This is a great way to get a group of your girlfriends together to help BE the Difference!
** Please note all lia sophia advisors are independent and this is only through Regan Ingle…not lia sophia **
